SHP – Teen Build Nights

Special Thanks to Elder High School for hosting our Teen Build Night page on their Elder Serves website.

THE NEED
In the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area, thousands of kids are sleeping each night on inadequate bedding.  Children are doubled and tripled-up with siblings, sleeping on sofas and chairs, on the floor, or even in cars.  Not getting a good night’s sleep leads to a whole variety of problems including poor academic performance and health issues.  We all know how hard it is to learn when we haven’t had a good night’s sleep!  We are here to help solve this problem and improve the lives of the children we serve.

BUILD NIGHTS
Teens (ages 13 – 18) are invited to our warehouse located in Newtown, where we will work together to build beds for kids in need.  Tasks include using power tools to sand wood, drill holes, screw boards together, stain bed parts, and brand our logo into the boards.  We may also need help organizing our bedding storage room. SHP Teen Dream Team members will explain what we do and why we do, and will provide proper, safe tool usage techniques and supervision.  Snacks, drinks, and pizza may be provided.  NOTE: Space is limited to 12 teens per session.
